Hirsch Vineyards Wine Tasting
Hello from the Caviste -

With the cooler weather, we're outside as much as possible these days. We hope you are enjoying beautiful Winston.

This week, we are excited to host a great tasting of some iconic California wines.  Hirsch Vineyards Wine Tasting, Wednesday, Sept 30, 5-7 drop in, with Toby Oshiro. This is a not to be missed tasting. We will be presenting some of the state's top wines from a benchmark producer whose founder recently passed away.  If you love Pinot Noir, this is the tasting for you.

We hope to host you soon for a glass sometime soon,

Cheers

Wednesday, Sept 30, 5-7 drop in
$18 tasting fee, $10 waived with featured bottle purchase
We are pleased to host Toby Oshiro from Hirsch Vineyards, who will pour and give you the inside scoop on this esteemed winery. David Hirsch, the founder of the winery, placed the rugged Sonoma Coast on the wine map and inspired winemakers from Williams Selyem, Littorai, Kistler Vineyards and others. Originally a lover of Burgundy, David Hirsch went on to mimic the French passion for terroir and found a property that sits on a ridgeline, 1500 feet high, overlooking the Pacific. Straddling the San Andreas Fault, the soils are layered and complex, with 44 different soil types. Like famed terroir around the world, this site provided wines of nuanced but unique variation.  This is a rare opportunity to try such benchmark wines.

Estate Chardonnay 2023 | Sonoma Coast
The only white wine produced in the winery coming from just 4 acres. Vine age, dramatic soils, and extreme maritime climate combine to create a silky, minerally, show-stopping white. Age-able, but also great to sip in the evening twilight. $83

Rosé of Pinot Noir 2024 | Sonoma Coast
The intent was to capture the essence of their pinots in rosé form. Long natural barrel fermentation combined with extended lees aging, with 30% new oak, makes this a serious, structured rosé (think, a big Fall rosé). They actually recommend decanting this rosé (!) and serving this just slightly at cellar temp (not your refrigerator temp). $49

Bohan-Dillon Pinot Noir 2024| Sonoma Coast
Bohan-Dillon is the name of a road that runs north to south in Sonoma Coast, though is also named after Mike Bohan, who is noted as being the first modern wine grower there. It also pays homage to the great village wines of France. Same care, quality of vines, and fresh-ness from their pinot vineyards. The black cat was the winery cat, Bobes, who was bitten twice by a rattlesnake and survived.    $54

West Ridge Pinot Noir 2023 | Sonoma Coast
Here is a wine David Hirsch once described as romantic. The vines here are historic, tracing their lineage back to original Burgundy cuttings brought over by Paul Masson in the 1800's. David got cuttings from the Mount Eden Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains and planted the vineyard in 1992. The vintage was one of the coolest and longest in decades and resulted in highly aromatic and elegant wines.  $112

Burgundy Alert
As you know, we are always on the lookout for Burgundy wines. Lucky us, the wines from the famed estate of Anne Gros return to our shelves, but only for a moment as they are selling out quickly! The Cremant ($34) is a delicious Champagne lookalike with the classic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay but also a touch of Aligote. The reds and whites are equally beguiling and delicious, and we even have a Chambolle Musigny gem or two from Anne Gros.
