As we all look forward to this week's cooler weather, we've been listening to some tunes while lining up some cool tastings for you.
The first one is "Cool Cali Kids" Wine Tasting, Wednesday, Sept 23, 5-7 drop in, with John May from Kellogg Selections. A couple of whites and a couple of reds that bring the unique laid back flavors of California to town.
The second, is an exclusive Hirsch Vineyards Wine Tasting, Wednesday, Sept 30, 5-7 drop in, with Toby Oshiro of Hirsch Vineyards. This is not to be missed as we pour some of the state's top wines from a benchmark producer whose founder recently passed away. If you love Pinot Noir, this is the tasting for you.
California is having a moment. Winemakers are taking classics and updating with their cool spins, or continuing their greatness (yes, we're using that word, greatness) of longstanding beauty from the extreme coast of Sonoma County (such as Hirsch Vineyards).
Reminds us of some other classic greats on vinyl with cool "kids" doing a modern spin. A friend recently introduced us to the newly-released record, A Supreme Blue, a collaboration between a modern jazz quintet that melds funk, blues, r&b, soul, with a New Orleans trumpeter. Fresh with a bit of funk and groove, they pay homage to the centenniels of Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Best to enjoy with good wines and friends.
Along the same theme, if you're in the mood for live music, our local symphony is celebrating Coltrane's centennial by featuring saxophonist Robert Young this coming weekend, September 26-27. More info is here, Winston-Salem Symphony.

Ryme, based in Sonoma County, celebrates Italian classic varietals. This one is mouthwatering, lemon rind fresh, crisp, clean. $26
Sandlands, Trousseau | North Coast
Trousseau
Sandlands, a passion project of Tegan Passalacqua, highlights California's forgotten varietals from fringe vineyards; this one, is a rare, light-bodied red from the coast; bright red cherry, kirsch, light pepper, a wow factor. $34
Ceritas, Costalina Pinot Noir | Sonoma
Pinot Noir
Ceritas is a collective with intimate knowledge of West Sonoma Coast, Santa Cruz Mountains, Moon Mountain, and Napa, respecting each terroir with biodynamic farming, and pursuing singular, expressive wines.
