Saturday (Today!) Tasting with Anna from Piedmont || Returning Favorites from Wine Traditions || Alsatian Wine Tasting Feb 27

Hello from the Caviste:

We hope you are having a lovely February. We have another calendar full of tasting opportunities and delicious dinners, both opportunities to try some new wines and pairings.

Below you will also find some of the outstanding and unique wine values from one of our favorite importers, Wine Traditions.  These wines offer unique grapes and styles to broaden your wine adventure or return to an old favorite.

Finally, we are thrilled to have Anna from Piedmont Wine Imports in the store TONIGHT for a fun tasting of Italian wines from  4:30 to 6:30. These are some of the best sellers in their portfolio and we will sell them as long as they last. Please come by today and say hi.

If you want fantastic tasting wines at great prices and a long history, then you should be trying wines from Alsace.  This region has a history of wine making and offers a range of wines that are crisp, clean, dry, elegant, and age-able, rivaling white burgundies in their complex flavors and lengthy finishes. Yes, they are tall bottles but they are NOT sweet wines.

These are benchmark favorites and for us a do-not-miss tasting. If you heard us talking about our recent visits to Alsace, you will know how much we love this region and their winemakers are leading the organic and natural wine movement in France.

Meyer-Fonne - Edelzweicker

Kuentz-Bas - Riesling Tradition

Meyer-Fonne - Pinot Blanc

Kuentz-Bas - Cremant d'Alsace

Wine Traditions Imports
Like dandelions peeking out in the yard, we are happy to see these French favorites returning from one of our favorite French  wine importers: Wine Traditions.  If you joined us for our dinner with Wine Traditions owner Ed Addiss, you know the value his wines represent.  Ed's talent is finding authentically delicious wines where others are not looking;  the little nooks and crannies of French wine regions. This result is a high quality wine at a lower price. This week we saw the following return to our store shelves with others to  follow in the coming weeks.

Salel et Renaud | Testaire | Ardèche, France
Ever heard of Raisanne (a grape)?  This wine is 100% Raisaine which originates from the Joyeuse - Largentière sector of the Cévennes Ardéchoise, and to their knowledge, Elise and Benoit are the only ones making wine from this grape. If you enjoy a Rhone white, this is a delicious interpretation. $21

Garnerot | Terres de Garnerot Bourgogne Cote Chalonnaise | Mercurey, France
Burgundy at its best, rich flavors and a value price.  Red cherry, black currant, licorice and fruit blossoms.  This is a fantastic value and quality wine for the Pinot Noir fan that seeks elegance in their  wine. $28

Clovallon | Les Indgènes | Languedoc, France
The cuvee “Les Indigènes” comes from a field blend of pre-phylloxera vines all from a single "clos" of less than a hectare. As was the custom “back in the day” the vineyard was co-planted with a wide variety of grape types both white and red. Most of the grapes have been identified and include Carignan, Cinsault, Clairette, Grenache, Grenache Blanc. Grenache Gris, Macabeu, Malvasia, Muscat a Petits Grains, Ugni Blanc, Aramon, Terret, and Jacquet.  Historic and wild, the wine is for those seeking a different route in the wine world from the mass produced grocery store shelves. $28

Cros | Marcillac | Southwest France
A historic winery and region.  Using barrels dating back over 200 years, the Domaine du Cros Marcillac is the best example of this appellation you can find. The wine is vibrant, exciting, savory and juicy and is a perfect pairing for rustic meat and vegetables dishes. Mansois, the local name for Fer Servadou, is the only grape variety used in the AOC of Marcillac. Its rustic wines show characteristic aromas of blackberries, raspberries, cassis and pepper with an iron minerality attributed to the local terroir. $19
