Wake Forest University's Hanes Gallery, under the direction of Paul Bright, is partnering with American artist Dread Scott and Cristin Tierney Gallery (NYC) on an installation for the 60th International Art Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia, which will be held from April 20 through Nov. 24 in Venice, Italy. The Venice Biennial is an international cultural exhibition hosted annually every year since 1895. The main exhibition alternates between art and architecture (hence the name biennale; biennial). Paul will be on-site to share a slideshow and chat about his recent travel experience.

We will have a special by-the-glass menu for purchase in honor of the event. This is a drop-in event, and is free to attend. No reservations required.

Grüner Veltliner

We have been on a Japanese maple trees kick lately. The kaleidescope of colors and diverse shapes / personalities (with names like "Cynthia's Crown", "Shiraz", "Tattoo", and "Hefner") charm us with snapshots of nature -- season to season, year to year.

The grape, grüner veltliner, does the same for us in a glass.

Grüner has different personalities depending on where they are grown. While mostly planted in Austria, the diversity of soil types and climate reveal terroir (a sense of place) through this varietal. It can be herbal, delicate, crisp, or ripe, waxy, fragrant, and beguiling. It can age like Chablis in the hands of the right producer and take on complex layers of flavors. A true under-the-radar wine. We invite you to take a tour - four producers from different regions and soil types and see for yourself why this is one of our go-to whites.
