Symphony By the Glass | Italian Trattoria

Hello from the Caviste:

Along with Spring's tulips and daffodils, we have a Spanish wine tasting, live symphony music, and some delicious Italian food coming your way. How much better can March get? We hope you will join us for one of these events.

The menu is out for Italian Trattoria night, Wednesday, March 12, and we are thrilled that Peter Bedrosian and the Bobby Boy Bakeshop Kitchen crew will do their magic for the evening. We will open some bottles and look forward to spending time with you.

THIS WEEK, our Tuesday tasting is on mostly female Spanish producers, an exciting new generation of winemakers passionate about their land and heritage. Spanish Wine tasting, March 4, 5-7 drop in.

And of course, what better way to start your weekend (early) by dropping in for some live symphony music? Symphony-by-the-glass, Thursday, March 6, 5-6:30 drop in, with Music Director Michelle Merrill giving a preview chat on the upcoming concert weekend at 6pm.

Hope to see you soon - The Caviste Team

New Spain Wine Tasting

Tues Mar 4 | 5-7 drop in
$5 tasting fee, waived with feature bottle purchase

with Sophie from Rise Over Run

One joy in our line of work is discovering new winemakers from around the the world who are passionate about their heritage, land, and terroir. As it happened, this is a group of mostly female winemakers in this lineup who are forging the future of Spanish wines. Focusing on indigenous varietals, their wines provide a snapshot into their terroir with incredibly delicious and unique wines. This a lineup you do not want to miss.

Arrayan, La Suerte de Arrayan | Madrid
100% Albillo Real
80-year old bush vines, female winemaker Maite Sánchez, traditional techniques, organic farming, a focus on indigenous varietals, respecting traditional winemaking with an eye on capturing terroir and heritage; creamy and minerally balanced, apricot fruit and sunburst energy $30

Viña Elena, Bruma del Estrecho de Marín | Jumilla
100% Monastrell
specializing in monastrell (aka mourvèdre) from the region, from 15-35 year old organic vines, Elena Pacheco and Isio Ramos are showcasing this microclimate region; balanced, floral, perfumed, alluring $19

Berta Valgañón, Selección Maturana Tinta | Rioja
100% Maturana Tinta de Navarrete
Berta comes from a long line of family winemakers and now
makes her wines from estate vineyards of organic and regenerative viticulture; aged in concrete, wonderful fine herbs, savory, tiny cranberries $27

Baldover 923, Cañada París Blanco | Valencia
100% Merseguera

a group of winemaker friends focused on highlighting terroir from the Valencia region; their cellar is 923 meters above sea level, and the combination of Mediterranean and continental climate, high altitude, and hands-off techniques brings wildly fresh, lively, elegant, and balanced wines $24

Live Music from your symphony musicians

With Director Michell Merrill at 6pm giving a preview chat

Join us for some live music, meet old and new friends, try the evenings by-the-glass menu specially "paired" with the theme of the upcoming concert, and chat with Music Director Michelle Merrill about a chamber serenade that also includes Mozart's last symphony.

FEATURE WINES - BURGUNDY
Burgundy is our stuck-on-a-desert-island wine. We love the diversity of terroir, the spectrum and kaleidoscope of flavors, the exhilaration of either the first sip or last sip of a perfectly balanced wine. We have many "favorites" on our shelves, but are highlighting two, from the Kermit Lynch Portfolio, that are just singing right now.  While not inexpensive, these both show why Pinot Noir is so popular and Burgundy its home.

Domaine de La Cadette, Bourgogne Rouge

Valentin Montanet is part of a quiet revolution taking place in Vezelay, just outside of Chablis, introducing the world to delicious, affordable, estate-bottled burgundy.

This is a bottle you open for pure pleasure; beaujolais-like, juicy and snappy, fresh, young cherries, pop it open for even a pizza night.

$38
Domaine Gachot-Monot
Cote de Nuits-Villages 2022

Damien Gachot works his vines as if they are premier cru fruit from Nuits-Saint-Georges, but in lesser known appellations. Hence, a more accessible price since you're not paying Nuits-Saint-Georges pricing.

Here the vines are more than 50 years old and offer a wine that is serious and complex, but immensely drinkable all at once, pretty nose, balanced tannins/acid, elegant and silky, leaning towards black fruits like cassis and blackberries.
