Summer Wines || Falkenstein || Tuesday Tasting

Hello from the Caviste:

We hope you are staying cool these days. We had a great two-week break and have come back refreshed and excited to see you all back in the store. We have many new arrivals on the shelves, and super tasty wines by the glass. Keep scrolling for pictures!

Further, we are lining up some Tuesday Tastings, the first one is this coming Tuesday, July 30, 4:30-6:30, with Anna from Piedmont Wine Imports. She will be pouring a new French producer to their portfolio, and two returning Italian favorites.

In the meantime, we have been devouring books in the shade. I (Alice) am doing catch-up reading with Jancis Robinson's memoir on her wine journey, Tasting Pleasure: Confessions of a Wine Lover. While she is well-known as a wine critic, and even advised Queen Elizabeth II on her wine cellar, she is first and foremost a wine lover. A great read, as she tells stories of wines like they are people -- there are history, stories, growth and personalities in each bottle
. Russ is finishing Rick Bass's The Traveling Feast, a travel journal of sorts where Rick travels and cooks for many of his great writing mentors, including Peter Matthiessen, David Sedaris and Joyce Carol Oates.

We hope to see you soon!

- Tuesday Tasting -

July 30 4:30-6:30
Piedmont Wine Imports
France v. Italy
4 wines for $5

We are back with our Tuesday Tastings, and the first one of the season is with Anna and Rachel, pouring four wines, two from France and two from Italy. While we are posing it as "battle," it is more like meeting new friends. A new producer, Domaine Montirius, is an exciting new kid on the block, and da capo and Morella are returning favorites. We hope to see you here!

Montirius | Rhone
"La Muse Papilles" Rosé | 100% Cinsault
"Le Cadet" Vaucluse | Grenache, Syrah
This family were biodynamic farmers back before biodyanmics was cool. In fact, they were the first biodynamic estate in the Rhone valley. With 68 hectares across Vacqueyras and Gigondas and the rest of Rhone, that is quite a feat. What is also amazing, is that their pricing is accessible. We are excited to feature a red and a rose of theirs, both equally beguiling, juicy, and delicious in their own right.

Morella | Puglia
Mezzogiorno Bianco | Fiano
Morella has been a favorite in our store - she is 100% committed to biodynamic farming in Puglia, is one of the most precise, clean producers in the region. Her white is a beach wine, literally (grapes are grown a few kilometers from the gulf of Taranto), and flavor-wise (salty, citrus, crisp, clean).

da capo | Monferrato
"Majoli" Ruché
Renata and her family are quintessential Italian - passionate, focused on local, and extremely communal in sharing their love for food and wine. They grow indigenous varietals in the Langhe region and have been a favorite at the store. Ruché is a rare varietal. Seductive flowers, cinnamon, berries, structured tannins.
