Summer wines, DJ night and holiday closure

  • Posted on

Hello All:

Summer is in full swing and we hope we can help chill things down with a refreshing white and a wonderful summer rosé.  On the calendar, our good friend, Ben Sayers, DJ Fleet, will be kicking off some cool  summer tunes from vinyl  on June 17, Friday, 6 to 9pm.

Finally, we are heading into the home stretch for our annual Summer Closure.  We will be closing the first two weeks of July so let us help you stock up a little before we go -

HOLIDAY CLOSURE:
July 2 (Saturday) to July 18 (Monday).

Chateau de la Grange, "La Berriere" Muscadet, 100% Melon de Bourgogne
One of the most refreshing summer wines comes from a region whose rivers empty into the Atlantic and is near the local oyster beds, the wine of Muscadet.  Chateau de la Grange has been tending Melon de Bourgogne vines (the main grape varietal in Muscadet) since the 1700's, with vines first planted there in the 1500s. Proximity to the ocean and the lake allows early ripening of the grape with that maritime air. 7 months aging on the lees gives suppleness and silky texture to the wine.

This wine crackles with vibrant flavors and a refreshing hint of citrus salinity.  The lees aging rounds the wine out enough to soften the palate to a nice sippability.  It is the perfect pairing for oysters, but can also be a fresh companion to potato chips, or grilled fish. A Southern favorite and surprising pairing is fried chicken!!  There is a slight tingle on the tip of the tongue that cleanses and refreshes the palate on a hot summer day. This is worth buying by the 6 pack at $13 a bottle,

Pascal Reverdy
"Terre de Maimbray" Sancerre Rosé
Almost everyone knows Sancerre for its white wines (we are struggling to keep them in stock); fewer know the region also works with Pinot Noir for both red and rosé wines.  Year after year, Pascal Reverdy makes one of our favorites.  This year he has returned to a more elegant style that balances the richness of the pinot noir fruit he grows in the tiny hamlet of Maimbray.  The grapes grow on the Kimmeridgian limestone the region is famed for. This vintage's bottling is a vibrant juiciness packed full of  fresh-picked cherries, delicate floral notes and a wonderful mouth-watering minerality.  This is like the summer convertible of rosés, perfect for a relaxing evening as the sun and heat recedes.  It also has aging potential if you are able to leave it alone. $28

Another great musical event at The Caviste that you do not want to miss!  Our good friend, Ben Sayers, E.R. doc by day, super spinning D.J. by night, grew up learning how to spin vinyl from DJ battles on VHS videos (think, 1980's or Stranger Things).  He furthered his training with tips from a high school buddy briefly mentored by Biz Markie no less.  Additionally he is one of the nicest guys we know.  So, join us for some well selected tunes to pair with some well selected wines and some delicious nibbles from  Bobby Boy Bakeshop !

Menu and prices to follow - pre-orders only.

Cheers
