Study in Puglia | Spanish Roast Chicken Dinner

Hello from the Caviste:

Everything is blooming this time of the year. If you haven't been to Reynolda Gardens (one of the many secret gems in our town), it is worth taking a morning stroll. Pictured above are some of the blooms from the gardens.

Tuesday Tasting is a Study in Puglia with Anna Katsibhatla from Piedmont Wine Imports. This is a rare opportunity to study one grape, Primitivo, expressed in four ways. Come study, taste, and enjoy. September 16, 5-7pm drop in.

We have also released our next Thursday dinner date. This dinner will center on the flavors of Spain paired with a delicious Rioja.  It will be  on September 25, rsvp only. Scroll below for more details.

We hope to see you soon at the store.

Cheers

Tuesday Tasting -
A Study in Puglia

Tuesday, September 16, 5-7pm drop in
$5 tasting fee, waived with featured bottle purchase

Anna from Piedmont Wine Imports will be pouring wines from two female wine producers from Morella and Plantamura in Puglia.  Both champion the primitivo varietal. Primitivo is related to zinfandel and these wines demonstrate the nuance this grape can express.

---
Morella
Lisa Gilbee's light touch in the winery complements the biodynamic approach in the vineyard. She focuses on protecting and celebrating old bush-vine primitivo. Her logo and inspiration is a statue owl made of sandstone, a creature who observes nature (hence the owl on the labels). Her wines are dry, balanced richness and depth of flavor.

Mezzanote | Primitivo
black currants, pepper, undercurrent of cassis, broody, great for stewed dishes, oxtail soup, midnight snacks $26

Alla Fiorentina | Primitivo
light maceration, stainless steel, pure fruit, fresh herbs, juicy, drink with the harvest moon $38

---
Plantamura
Mariangela Plantamura have single-parcel primitivos at accessible prices. She and her husband produce only primitivo on a 9-hectare farm (tiny!), and this time, we get to taste primitivo in a rosé form. Small farm, hand harvest, biodynamic, located in Gioia del Colle, a high plateau part of Puglia. All of the wines are aged in stainless steel to preserve the freshness and highlight the fruit.

Rosé | Primitivo
lively, mountain berries, a hint of body and oomph, this is a classic Fall rosé $20

Contrada San Pietra (black label) | Primitivo
plums, blackberries, allspice, pretty, low tannins $23
