Hello from the Caviste: Happy Mother's Day weekend to all! It's been crazy fun for us here with all the events and visitors in our shop.
But we also want to take a pause and use Mother's Day as an excuse to say thank you, our customers, many of whom have become friends and supporters of the shop. We are grateful to be part of this community. Thank you!
We have more events coming your way - we hope to see your wonderful faces soon in the store.
TODAY - CHAMPAGNE AND BURGUNDY TASTING, Saturday, May 11, we welcome Ed Addiss in the shop who imports small French producers. Two grower champagnes, one burgundy, and one biodynamic southern France red made from 200-year old vines. 4:30-6:30, drop in, come learn a little history on pre-phylloxera grapes, terroir-driving champagnes, and classic burgundy style.
TUESDAY, May 14 - natural-wine focused importer, Steven Graf, will pour off-the-radar wines, one from Luxembourg, two from a southern Rhone AOC, Carainne, and one from Corbières in Languedoc-Roussillon. Steven's talent is finding young winemakers from slightly off-the-radar regions who are quietly becoming rising stars in the wine world.
Cheers!

We are excited to welcome Ed and Barbara back. Ed's talent is finding authentically delicious wines where others are not looking; the little nooks and crannies of French wine regions. This result is a high quality wine at a lower price. He will pour two Champagnes and two French reds:
Georgeton-Rafflin | Cuvée L'Extra 1er Cru Extra-Brut | Champagne The base wine for this cuvée comes from parcels in three 1er Cru villages. The blend is 33% Pinot Noir, 33% Pinot Meunier, and 34% Chardonnay. A "perpetual reserve" base began in 2006, when Remi Georgeton returned to the family domain after his education and some apprenticeships. His passion and quiet persistence is evident in the brilliance of his recent cuvées.
Jose Michel | 'Clos Saint Jean' | Blanc de Blancs | Chardonnay The Blanc de Blancs is produced in the best vintages from a small plot of Chardonnay grown in Saint Agnan, left bank of the Marne. José Michel made his first vintage in 1955 and thanks in part to his cellar of very old bottles of Pinot Meunier, he developed a cult following for his Champagnes. José passed away in 2019 and this “Maison de Tradition” which began in 1847 is now, seven generations later, run by José and Nicole’s grandson, Antonin.
Domaine de Clovallon | Les Indigenes | Languedoc | Field Blend The cuvee “Les Indigènes” is produced from a single “clos” of less than a hectare that was planted around two hundred years ago and retains pre-phylloxera vines. Most of the grapes have been identified and include Carignan, Cinsault, Clairette, Grenache, Grenache Blanc. Grenache Gris, Macabeu, Malvasia, Muscat a Petits Grains, Ugni Blanc, Aramon, Terret, and Jacquet. As non-interventionist winemakers, Catherine Roque and her daughter Alix's wines naturally convey their respect for and delight in their land and vineyards.
Billard | Hautes Cotes de Beaune Rouge | Burgundy The Billard HCB Rouge comes from a plot of 6 hectares with alluvial clay soil in the village of Saint Aubin. When Domaine Billard passed from father to son, Jérôme Billard brought a new philosophy with him. Farming practices changed to eliminate chemicals and follow organic farming principles.

Tuesday May 14, 4:30-6:30pm
With Steven Graf$5 tasting fee*(*waived with any featured bottles purchased) Steven Graf Imports focus on small, family run projects, with a passion for production and pursuit of the ‘new’ without omission of tradition. He is well known for his representation and long time partnership with Fifi Wines, a portfolio focused on natural wines from France.
“So much of what we are about in "natural" wine is breaking from form and tradition to tell new stories from new spots on the globe; [...] this is never more powerful than with a new variation of an old theme.”
L&R Kox | 'Cuvee Zero Dosage' Cremant | Luxembourg This is a Chardonnay/Auxerrois blend from a small, female run estate in Remich, Luxembourg. The wines here are along the same latitude of the Pfaltz where we're seeing the climate get warmer, and making for bigger, riper vintages with more powerful fruit that can withstand not receiving a dosage.
Clos des Mourres | Pompette Blanc | France Ingrid & Jean-Philippe Bouchet cultivate vines on 5-hectares in Cairanne, oriented on the northwestern slope of the Col du Débat. This is an equal parts blend of Grenache Blanc / Clairette / Bourboulenc. The Bouchets cultivate vines on 5-hectares in Cairanne, oriented on the northwestern slope of the Col du Débat.
Clos des Mourres | Pompette Rouge |France Made from grapes Aubun / Counoise / Grenache / Cinsault from the vineyard La Tuile, vines planted by Ingrid’s grand-father in the 1980s.
Ledogar | AOC Corbières 'La Compagnon' | France Mathieu and Xavier are two brothers in the fourth generation of winemakers. In the mid-90's, when the brothers took over, they began the conversion to organic and biodynamic practices. La Compagnon is 60% Syrah / Carignan / Grenache from vines planted in 1948 on red and grey clay on sandstone.
