We are thrilled that one of our favorite importers, Piedmont Wine Imports (PWI) has many of their favorite wines returning. PWI started their portfolio by focusing on Italy and they have a wonderful range of wines from the country. Here are a few that consistently move all to fast through the store . . .
Torre de Beate, Cerasuolo, rosato - this is a favorite rosé for Alice and many others. It is made by producing both a red and white wine from the Montepulciano grape and then blending them back together, giving the wine a little more heft from the red wine structure. It is a wonderful cool weather rose and great for casual and lighter meals. $20
"The Man with the Hat" Oltretorrente Cortese, white - this is a delicious wine from the Piedmont Region of Italy. Often recognized by the graphic on the label, it is a great wine for the unoaked chardonnay drinker or pinot grigio drinker looking for something a little different. Delicious with grilled vegetables and risottos or fresh fish. $20
Almondo, Roero Rosso - many know how much we love nebbiolo (think Barolo and Barberesco) and if you do, you know how much this grape and its wines can reflect the variations and nuance of good Burgundy. Roero is a region north of Piemonte, heading into the mountains and the alto Piedmont. The higher elevation and cooler nights give a lift and elegance to the wine that make them accessible a little earlier than a beefy Barolo. These wines are perfect for casually grilled items or dishes with mushrooms; or your favorite red sauce pizza.
The following two wines are for those looking for a little more body and depth, truly serious wines for a hearty meal or cool cellar shelf :
Oltretorrente Barbera Superiore - All the wines Chiara and Michelle make are delicious. This Barbera Superiore has a marvelous depth, richness and full bodied nature begging for that hearty stew, grilled t-bone or other hearty dish you have been wanting to try out. $28
Torre de Beate Cocciapiazza - the crazy head montepulciano. The name means "crazy head" and the wine is certainly crazy delicious. The vineyard lies alongside one of the regions better known but much more expensive neighbors. Here you get the wow-factor without the sticker shock - dark-fruited, classic structure and elegance, impressively complex and balanced. $42
Not only are we happy to have these wines returning, we are excited to be welcoming Anna into the store on Saturday February 24th, 4:30-6:30, for a tasting where we will be pouring 4 great wines from their portfolio. There is a small fee for the tasting, but it is refundable when purchasing one of the wines tasted.
