Winemaker Visit June 30

Vacation Closure July 2 - 17

Rosés for Every Occasion
Hello from the Caviste -

We are officially swimming in a sea of rosés. We truly believe rosés fit the entire year, we know they are especially well suited to North Carolina summers! So, we are excited to have one of the area's largest and most diverse selections of delicious pink wines. A couple of favorites are listed below.

As a friendly reminder, our wine bar is open all day with a rotating selection (and spontaneous surprises) of wine by-the-glass, with Chef Bobby's bar snacks at 5:30 every day we are open (except for special events). Scroll all the way down for Chef's sample bar snacks menu.

**Winemaker Visit**

La Capuccina with Jay and Piedmont Wine Imports

Friday, June 30, evening
free, drop in
*more details to follow

Sisto Tessari and his sister run their certified-organic (since 1985) family winery near Verona. Since 1890, the Tessari family has been making wine at its La Cappuccina estate at Costalunga di Monteforte d’Alpone, in the Soave D.O.C. wine zone to the east of Verona, the romantic town of Romeo and Juliet.

Jay Murrie and the winemaker will be in the store pouring wines but we will be selling glasses to pair with some small plates we are developing with Chef Bobby.  A great opportunity to taste some new wines, pair them with some food and speak a little Italian if you can.

Kruger Rumpf Brut Rosé, Pinot Noir/Reisling
Nahe, Germany
Treat yourself with this sparkler

For us, Kruger Rumpf is firing on all cylinders.  For several years we have enjoyed their still rosé but recently, their sparkling is stealing our hearts and tastebuds with its delicious balance of crisp red fruits and hints of orange zest. There is a real fresh picked-from-the-berry-patch flavor to the wine supported by the palate tingle of bubbles.  Chill it well, find your favorite book and enjoy it on a relaxing afternoon this summer.  Also a great way to start an evening with friends around the grill or hibachi.

A lot of champagne quality at $31 a bottle.
Meinklang Prosa, Pinot Noir
Burgenland, Austria
Classic pool/beach side companion

To many, this wine is merely known as "the one with the cow on it" but it comes from one of the more careful and well-run biodynamic, organic wine estates anywhere in the world: Meinklang.  Don’t let the pink hue fool you; this wine is crisp, dry and dangerously drinkable. From organic pinot noir made in a pet-nat style, it is full of ripe fruits and hints of honeycomb.  You know the quality is good when the winemaker perfected this particular cuveé, Prosa for her own wedding!

If you like Prosecco and Cava, you owe it to yourself to give this delightful alternative bubble a try   $20
Berangerie "Tu Bois coâ?", Malbec, Cahors, France
Picnic rosé

Otherwise known as "The Frog," this is an easy-drinking rosé made from 100% Malbec. In 1971, André Berenger arrived in Cahors from Provence with his wife Sylvie, originally from Champagne, and planted their vineyard near Grezels, on the red clay/ iron stone soil known as Grèzes. Pruning, sustainable farming of the vineyards and harvesting are all done by hand; a disappearing practice in Cahors where harvesting is almost exclusively by machine. Deeply colored, dry and fruity, with grapefruit, raspberries, and strawberries on the nose with the richer palate one would expect from Malbec. Just have some friends over and share a bottle, or two. $15
