Things to love about this wine? First, it comes from one of our current favorite wine regions in France; the Jura. Tucked away in the mountains, this region is home to Comte cheese, some fabulous hikes and perhaps some of France's most sought after winemakers today. Second, the reds from here more frequently capture the ethereal nature of "wine" for me than many other regions. Bajocian cliff scree and lias clay are considered the best vineyard sites, and the higher elevation maintains a lightness on the palate but the region's producers frequently coax out rich and enticing flavors. Finally, this wine is from Trousseau, a great grape I think all Pinot Noir lovers should explore.
With a solid, round structure, this wine gently develops complex aromas of red and black fruits (strawberry, morello cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry). The fruit persists for a long time, followed by fine tannins on the finish. Casual enough for the leftover sandwich the day after, elegant enough for the Thanksgiving bird. At $24, this is a fantastic and 'alternative' bottle to add to your Thanksgiving table!
