November wines and a Yakitori pop-up

Hello from the Caviste;

We are speeding through Fall and pretty soon Thanksgiving will be here!  We have stocked the shelves with some great selections for pairing with your Thanksgiving meal or simply hosting some social get togethers. Don't forget, we offer deliveries for case purchases or curbside pickup, along with personalized wine pairings for your next dinner party.

In this newsletter, we've chosen two great wines that we find unique but also delicious for your next social or dinner table.

As you know, we love good food and hop at the chance to host exciting and adventuresome chefs.  And, we love good Asian food.  So, we are hosting a  Yakitori pop-up on  November 12, just a week away.  It will be  from 5:30 to 7:30, with Chef Brian Gebhard.  It is $40 for the food (menu to follow) and a paired beverage on offer.

This is a RSVP event, so if you are interested, please do let us know.

Minet - Pouilly Fumé

A Sancerre Neighbor

We love small production wines of focus, feeling they frequently have something more personal to say than meeting a marketing statement.  Here, you have the grandson of a tonnelier (barrel maker) in one of the world's top Sauvignon Blanc regions producing wines that rival and even pass some iterations of the better known neighbor Sancerre.

Regis Minet is certainly a man of attention and focus and this is reflected in his wines.  The wine is full of white peach and macerated fresh Florida grapefruit with strips of lime peel in the back ground.  The body has a touch of roundness before resolving to a zesty ripe and rich lime note, an intriguing sweet sour note.  Perfect for goat cheese. This vintage is one of our favorite fall Sauvignon blancs. The only challenge is how easy drinking it is. $28

Ligier - Trousseau

If you like pinot noir . . .

Things to love about this wine?  First, it comes from one of our current favorite wine regions in France; the Jura. Tucked away in the mountains, this region is home to Comte cheese, some fabulous hikes and perhaps some of France's most sought after winemakers today.  Second, the reds from here more frequently capture the ethereal nature of "wine" for me than many other regions.  Bajocian cliff scree and lias clay are considered the best vineyard sites, and the higher elevation maintains a lightness on the palate but the region's producers frequently coax out rich and enticing flavors.  Finally, this wine is from Trousseau, a great grape I think all Pinot Noir lovers should explore.

With a solid, round structure, this wine gently develops complex aromas of red and black fruits (strawberry, morello cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry). The fruit persists for a long time, followed by fine tannins on the finish. Casual enough for the leftover sandwich the day after, elegant enough for the Thanksgiving bird. At $24, this is a fantastic and 'alternative' bottle to add to your Thanksgiving table!

**Pro-customer tip: send us an email if you know you want some set aside or pre-order with us if you want to make sure we have them in stock.**
