Jura and events

Hello from the Caviste;

It seems the wine world constantly offer new and exciting regions, grapes or producers to discover and try.  And we certainly enjoy this exploration and oenologic adventure, but we also have old favorites we regularly return to.  The wines from the Jura mountains of France are one of the regions as style of wines we find ourselves repeatedly visiting - so we are thrilled to have the Ligier wines returning to the shelves.

Fly into Paris, drive south to Beaune and then head east towards Switzerland.  Passing through the rolling foothills, similar to our Piedmont, you begin to enter a slightly more mountainous region home to the famed Comte cheese and just slightly lesser known Jura wines.  Scroll down for more details on our Ligier offerings.

Our bar snacks program are every evening starting at 5:30. Come on in and see what we're pouring with the bar snacks!
  We will keep you posted on the specials as soon as we find out but the best way to learn what Chef is cooking is to follow our instagram - https://www.instagram.com/thecavistews/

Upcoming Events

Saturday, April 15, DJ Fleet (aka Ben Sayers), 6pm - 9pm, small plates will be offered at 5:30. Our friend and talented DJ will be spinning records that evening. Come chill, have a glass (we will have a special by-the-glass menu), order some bar snacks. This is a drop-in event.

Ligier Cremant

Like a fine blanc de blanc from Champagne or Burgundy, this wine is 100% Chardonnay, made in the methode champenoise and racked for 12-18 months before being sold. This long aging on the lees gives it elegant finesse in its bubble and aromatic complexity.  Greenish-gold color with a lovely bead. The nose offers hints of citrus fruits and white flowers, and on the palate these fruity flavors are round but balanced by an excellent acidity.    $26/bottle

Ligier - Chardonnay

Think fine white Burgundy with a mountain twist.  I love the bright citrus components of Jura white that seem to inevitably have a little almond note - whether fresh blossom or a more toasted note nut. The grapes are from hillsides with soils of a combination of different marls, tirassic clay, and calcareous scree. A delicious alternative for the white burgundy lover. $24.

Ligier - Poulsard

Whether spelled Poulsard or Plousard, both being accepted, this grape always offers and intriguingly delicious experience.  This is a lovely example of the grape, one of the 3 key Jura red grape varieties, which particularly likes strong marl or clay soils. Hand harvested and then vinified in the traditional manner, it spends 10-12 months in vats before being bottled.  It is a light ruby color and its structure is light and fruity: currant, raspberry, morello cherry. A uniquely food friendly wine, perfect with charcuterie (especially if smoked) and grilled meats. $24

Wine Clubs

A great way to learn and experience a broader range of wines is through one of our wines clubs.  For a few years now, we have had two, Benchmark reds and Champagne.  Now, we are excited to announce the addition of our newest club focused on our value wine selections.

 3-pack value club: Once a month, you'l receive 3 bottles per month, all incredibly valued (usually between $15-$25 retail), some that are under-the-radar, or just drinking really well. They will be whites, reds, orange, and/or rosés that will follow the changing seasons. Monthly total price will be in the $50 range, which includes the 10% off retail pricing.

If you're interested in any of these clubs, give us a call or send us an email.

We look forward to helping you find some delicious wines for your next meal or event. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
