Bar Snacks Program Change | Sancerre | Fried Chicken and Champagne

Back in the Shop!
"Smaller" Bar Snacks Program
Featured Sancerre
Fried Chicken and Champagne Pop-up
Hello from the Caviste

We are back from our summer break and have missed you all! Russ and I had a great time on the west coast, visiting family and friends, reconnecting and rejuvenating. Pictured here is the Bard on the Beach, Vancouver's Shakespeare festival with the skyline as the backdrop.

** Store Update **
Bar Snacks Program Shift
We're back in the store but shifting our evening offerings. That means we are paring back the bar snacks program and refocusing our attention to pop-up events, classes, and tastings. So while we are no longer offering a full dinner menu, we will offer "little" snacks such as conservas, olives, bread, chips, etc, on a daily basis.

Pop-up Plate Specials, Classes, Events
But never fear! We are redirecting our energies to pop-up plate specials, classes and events.

Tuesdays - we will have distributor tastings. The first one is the classics wine tasting with Alex from Kellogg Selections, August 5, 5-7pm, drop in.

Chef Bobby and his kitchen will "pop-up" on  most Thursdays beginning in August, and we will be pairing wines with these plate specials. The first event will be Thursday, August 7, Fried Chicken and Champagne, rsvp or walk-in (until sell-out), seatings between 5:30 - 7:30.

Russ will come back and teach his wine classes (we've missed those classes).  The first one is Back-to-School Wine Basics, Part I, Wednesday, August 13, 6pm. More details will follow.

As always, we still have a curated by-the-glass menu, a grower champagne is always open, and Russ or I may also pop open any bottle that suits the mood on any given day.

Stay cool and we will see you soon at the store!

Cheers

Featured Wine
Remember this classic Sancerre? It is back on our shelves.

The wines of Hippolyte Reverdy offer such a classic representation of both the region and the grape, they are often used for wine education and sommelier exams.  In the store, it is frequently used by customers for delicious drinking.
Hints of ocean spray saline and crushed seashell notes meld with ripe citrus and hints of citrus blossom on the nose. The palate is brimming with lime, hints of tree fresh red grapefruit, wildflowers and a refreshing minerality.  But, the wine also has a rich and broad texture with a softer mid-palate adding to its great drinkability.  For many, it will be a surprise how much this already delicious wine can age.  So, open it in advance, decant it and even drink it throughout the week to see the wine develop, grow and expand in flavor and nuance.

The wine is as classic as the label, rich flavors coming from perfectly ripe fruit not oak barrels or other manipulation.  Serve it on the warm side to accent the richness, colder to highlight the wine's delicate brightness. $42
