A rosé, a red and a DJ

Hello from The Caviste
It certainly feels like summer is upon us with these oh so warm days. And, we are heading towards our annual summer break during the first two weeks of July. So, we have some fantastic wines for you to stock up on.
Rosés are rolling in regularly now, so plenty to choose from. Today we are offering one of the store's favorites, Fontsainte's Gris de Gris. As well, The Donkey is back! One of our favorite Barbera's is returning. This is a great value and always a little quick to leave the store shelves. So another worth stocking up on.

Fontsainte Gris de Gris Rosé
"Gris" in the dialect of the region means rosé and as the wine is mainly made from Grenache Gris it is called "Gris de Gris." We call it delicious. All the fruit is hand harvested, worked in a gravity fed cellar and produced from the saigneé method. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and has its malolactic conversion blocked.. This maintains a freshness that balances the rich profile of the fruit from the southern France sunshine. It drinks like a combination of a Provencal rosé with a little more dried red fruit in the mid-palate. It is perfect for just about all things summer and is qualitatively consistent from year to year, so having a few extra bottles around the house is never a problem as they will certainly be gone by the end of summer.
$20 a bottle again this year, 10% discount on 6 packs or more.
Bag in a Box
Ok, let's just get that out there and I know some of you are thinking; "The Caviste is selling box wine?" While a few may be thinking this, more of you have already discovered the tremendous value of what these wines represent. It is a little secret that in Europe, box wine is more a packaging decision (and cost saving) than it is a qualitative statement about the wine being sold. As here, such wines in Europe offer the best way to get high quality naturally produced wine at less expensive pricing. While they frequently sell out, when these wines return it is a great opportunity to offer one of the best wine values around.
Even open, these wines keep for months as the wine is never exposed to oxygen. While the coming holiday may be toned down a little, these wines are great for get-togethers. If you worry others may look askance at wine from a box, just put the wine in a carafe to serve it. A side benefit to their value pricing, is you also always have wine at the ready for your next recipe need. Here we offer a fantastic red from Italy.

Asinoi Bib - "The Donkey"
The "Donkey" is back, grab some while you can!!
This may be the wine that turned many Caviste customers on to the secrets of box wines. These wines never last long enough and I always encourage people to get some. Inevitably, I am met later for numerous requests after the wine is sold out in the state and often at the producer. Here are organically grown grapes vinified in a low intervention way to produce a delicious and vibrant Barbera for about $8.50 a bottle. This is a lively, pizza and red sauce pasta friendly Barbera, not an oaky, sweet international interpretation of the grape. Those who like this wine buy 3 or 4 BiB's at a time. Just the right math to get you through the holidays. $36/Box.
Next Week's Musical Interlude
D.J. Fleet (aka Ben Sayers) on vinyl
June 17, Friday, 6-9pm, drop in
Eclectic, funk, hip-hop, jazz, rock.
Small Plate Offered Too!
Another great musical event at The Caviste that you do not want to miss! Our good friend, Ben Sayers, E.R. doc by day, super spinning D.J. by night, grew up learning how to spin vinyl from DJ battles on VHS videos (think, 1980's or Stranger Things). He furthered his training with tips from a high school buddy briefly mentored by Biz Markie no less. Additionally he is one of the nicest guys we know. So, join us for some well selected tunes to pair with some well selected wines and some delicious nibbles from Bobby Boy Bakeshop !
Menu and prices to follow - pre-orders only.
Cheers
