A Portuguese white, wine class on Languedoc/Provence, and Pupusas and Pet-Nat night

Hello from The Caviste,

Not all of the flowers are blooming but we certainly have plenty of events springing up around the store. As well, we have new wines and old favorites returning to the store as well.  Did we say that rosé season is picking up too? For updates on events and going-ons at the store, we have our new website up and running (no online orders available), www.thecavistews.com.

Pedra Cancela
Dao Branco
We are diving deeper into the wines of Portugal a country seeing a rebirth in its wines with a focus on lower intervention (read less chemicals) and indigenous or local grapes.  Not to mention they can be some fantastic values.  For this 'blossoming' spring time, here is a delicious and aromatic white from the grapes Encruzado, Cerceal, and Malvasia Fina.  Don't worry if you don't know them the wine is delicious and enticingly aromatic.  There are notes of sliced papaya and ripe quince, with hints of lime blossoms and crushed garrique in the background. There is a nice roundness to the midpalate that makes the wine work well on a cool spring evening but not so rich it would overpower a light salad or pair with grilled shrimp.  And, it is a fantastic value at $13 a bottle.  And, to entice people to try these Portuguese treats, 10% off by the 6 pack, 15% off by the case.  (Note - our restock will be arriving this Wednesday.)

6 to 8 pm - RSVP
$24 for plate of 3 pupusas
We had so much fun last time, we are doing it again - hosting another fun and tasty evening of pupusas and pet-nats.  Naturally made wines and hand made pupusas - what could be more fun?  And, if the weather holds, it should be a beautiful evening on the patio.

A pupusa is a thick griddle cake or flatbread from El Salvador and Honduras, made with cornmeal or rice flour, similar to the Venezuelan and Colombian arepa. In El Salvador, it has been declared the national dish and has a specific day to celebrate it.  Lordy these are delicious and perfect for a fall evening meal.

We are offering 3 pupusas, some slaw and sauces on the side for $24.  As these are handmande, we have a limited number of servings, so, an RSVP is required.  We will have our normal BTG list in addition to some specific pairings for the evening.  Email or call for reso's.
